(aka the NEXT Big DAY!)
Pups 6 month update

New Year's Day, 2006:
I am alone at a gas station. I don't like the smell here, but I would love to have some companionship. Maybe those men will like me. I already like them! I am very lonely and I am exhausted. Last night was a rough night!

A woman has put me in her car. She asks the men if I belong to them. I am telling them to say yes, please say yes, I want to belong to someone. They tell her that I have been there for more than a day, hanging around. The woman who is named Rose and I ride off in her car. This is nice! Rose mentions the way I smell. I think to myself, I smell with my nose but I don't know how to tell her that so, I take a nap. I feel like I have been carrying a heavy weight and I need a rest.

When we get to Rose's house I get to meet her dogs. They are beautiful, I feel a bit out of my league. They are trim and tall and I have put on a few pounds lately and it really shows! Rose very lovingly gives me a bath. I don't mind because I love to be near people. Later that night Rose lets me sit in a chair with her. I have come to heaven!

Well, we are off in that car again. What a wonderful way to travel! We are going to Ziggy Beagle Rescue. I can not stay at Rose's house but Rose was very careful about finding me just the right place to go to instead. I have no idea what to expect. I hope it is not like a 'pound'. I have heard about them. I already trust Rose so I am sure I will be okay. If not, maybe Rose will look harder.

We get to the foster home. WELL! There are other dogs here but not that many. We are all in a house, I see a bed in one of the rooms, I plan on checking that out later on. First, I need to take in the smells and see how many people are here. I love people, I love when they touch me.

Rose says goodbye and I have to admit that I wanted to go with her. I did not know if these people would be as nice as Rose is and I was kind of missing Rose before that great car left the driveway. I wonder if these people have a car. I haven't seen one, not yet, anyway.

There are two people here, oh boy, more hands to pet me with! I like that. The other dogs are nice enough. I am not interested in them, though. I like the ladies of the house. They call me Honey. It sounds nice to me.

One of the ladies spent almost two hours just touching me! How wonderful that was. She was busy combing all those little flea critters that are just so annoying off of me. How nice is that?

Later on we all got to eat. I am pretty particular. Fortunately, they have canned food here - my favorite! I noticed those other dogs getting carrots as a treat, I passed. I was told that I am pregnant and that I am going to see the 'vet' tomorrow. I wonder if we will use a car. I hope so, I get so tired lately.

I decided to rest. I got to eat a few times, as much as I wanted. I think I like this place, too, Rose did good.

Went to the vet's (ahem, yes, in a car) and guess what, more people!! YAY, I love people, all of them! And when they touch me and look at me, I get all butterflies in my stomach. Remember when I said I gained a bit of weight? It is now confirmed. I am 29.6 pounds. Seems I am 'carrying' (?) maybe seven puppies! They are due to arrive in 4 to 10 days. I wonder if they will come in a car. If not, maybe someone will take them in one of ours.

Later in the day, I ate a few times and then had a walk with one of the other dogs. This is rather pleasant. I wish I could enjoy all this a bit more, but my breathing is so heavy these days. The vet said that I am Heartworm Positive. My foster mom says I will have to stay that way until after the puppies are gone. Gee, they didn't even get here yet and we are talking about them leaving.

I do wish my foster mom would stay in one room for a while. I want to keep my eyes on her. I don't want to take a chance on being left alone again, like I was at that gas station, so I try to stick close.

They tried to feed me some new stuff, yogurt and cottage cheese with kibble. Hmmpf, no thanks! I know they then hid it in the canned food, but if that is the way to get canned food in this house then I will go along with it.

I met someone on the walk today. This is so nice, I love people. Have I said that, already?

I am not sure, but I think I have actually gained more weight. Can it be possible?

Two visitors today, and just for me! I love this! They put something hard up my butt, to see what my temperature is. That was unpleasant, but it was just for a minute. I got lots of petting during it, too, so that was nice.

I get fed five times a day here! How is a girl going to lose weight eating five times a day? But you won't see me complaining!

I have my own private nest, it is close to my foster mom, I can hear her clicking on her keyboard but the other dogs do not go there and it is all mine. I don't think I could have gotten any luckier. I wish I could thank Rose for helping me that New Year's Day at the gas station.

Eat, sleep, walk, eat, sleep, walk. Is this a dogs life? I am glad I am a dog!

I am not too crazy about the nail cutting and ear wash, but I do feel a bit better afterwards.
