Beagle Info

Heidi is a one of a kind find. She was picked up as a stray in Florida and taken to a pound. She was HW+ and was going to be killed.

Heidi was rescued and started HW treatment August 22nd, thanks to a generous donation on Heidi's behalf. Prayers for Heidi's recovery are appreciated. Heidi is only 14 17 lbs, and has a very congested chest. There were concerns about her lasting through the treatment. This would have been a very disappointing outcome, most especially to little Heidi.

Heidi has a hole in her skull,
She has a scar on her back,
Her left front foot is lame

And, she is in love with life!

In Heidi's past life, someone taught her a few tricks and she can be quite the clown!
But, she does not like her picture taken!
We think she may be 'wanted'!

This photo was taken on 9/4, she is doing well with the HW treatment but is very tired most of the time. She saw the vet on 9/5 for a "looksee." Her meds were slightly changed and she still needs constant monitoring.

Update on 10/12/02: Heidi is doing absolutely beautifully! She already seems like a younger dog, she is bossing all the big dogs around, she has gotten just a bit spoiled! Heidi goes for her last treatment on Oct 22nd. She has to stay there for the day, so there is still one more hurdle for this little girl. Otherwise, all is looking good!

Update on 10/22/02: Heidi is at the vets' office having her final treatment. She is being monitored every 15 minutes, due to the dangers that she faces at this point in the treatment. Heidi has a good attitude and I know if she can, she will make it!

Update on 11/01/02: Heidi had to be moved to another foster home. When Heidi was rescued from the shelter we were told she was spayed. This is not the case, and Heidi is in "heat". Heidi was moved to an "all girl" foster home because some of the males (neutered) in her current foster home were reacting to her condition. Heidi is doing very well with her heartworm recovery! However, Heidi will need to be spayed in the future. This will be more costly than usual because she will need extra heart monitoring during the spay since she seems to have some breathing problems which is probably due to damage caused by her intense heartworm condition.

Update on 11/24/02: Heidi went to the vet on 11/20 and she is recovering very well. Her filter test was negative and she will have the occult test in a month. The vet said that Heidi can not be put under until at least four months pass. At that time we will consult with the vet in regard to having Heidi spayed. Otherwise, Heidi is doing very well! Thank you for all the good wishes on Heidi's behalf!
